About the Project

Challenged with extremely limited development resources and a very tight timeline, we were asked to freshen up the interface of our core product. Our scope was limited to only changing the look of the interface without changing or adding functionality. Without the ability to significantly improve the user workflow or component layout, I recommended leaving all the controls in the same locations and just modernizing their design.

This approach meant that we were not required to update training materials, reducing the overhead of the project. Additionally our "power users" would not be required to relearn how to control the interface, resulting in higher customer satisfaction with our core user base.

By modernizing the design without fundamentally changing the product we were able to provide a more enjoyable experience to our customers within our tight constraints. User comments included “It looks much more modern!” and “It’s so much easier to use.”
